Nissan Sylphy or Nissan Sentra for the Indian market will be a new sedan by the Japanese car maker that has two offerings already in place in this category– Nissan Sunny and Nissan Teana. The Nissan sedan expected to be priced at Rs 12 lakh, will be positioned above the Sunny. In India, the Sylphy could arrive by this name or as Sentra, the name with which Nissan sells it in America. The introduction of Sylphy will be able to fill the void between the Teana and Sunny.

Nissan Sylphy Launch date

The 2 L engine powered car is expected to arrive in India later this year when the country’s car market will see maximum launches and it will be a bumper Diwali this year for national and international car makers. The Sylphy, a name that is perhaps derived from Sylph (An elemental being believed to inhabit the air) will be just proving its name right. Nissan has great expectations with Sylphy and after the recent unveil at the Beijing Motor Show, the car maker hopes to launch it in major car markets by this year end and in all 120 countries across globe in the next two years.

There are reports that suggest that for India, the Sylphy sedan could get a 1.8 L engine option as well. However, it is believed that the 1.8 L would be certain for India, as it will somehow make the car more affordable. The car will have XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The new generation Sylphy (or Sentra) revealed at the Beijing Motor Show will soon replace the Sentra and starting China it will be launched in other parts of the world with regional changes and changes in nomenclature as well. The Sylphy will be a typically Japanese car albeit with an emphasis on comfort and other features. The car has a lot of similarities with a sylph. The Malaysian model of Sylphy that is expected to arrive in India in toto has Bi-Xenon projector headlamps with Active Front-Lighting System (AFS) apart from all new chrome plated grille and new bumper at the front. The new Sylphy also has revised alloys with seven spoke 16 inch design. At the rear as well the tail lamps are dazzling enough and are take shape of sylphyan curves. On the inside the new Nissan car will have plush and lots of space. Black fabric seats and an ultra sporty dark interior will characteristically give it an unmatched sports car looks. The car will feature an intelligent key that will enable keyless entry and start-up.

In India the Sylphy sedan by Nissan will be competing with Volkswagen Vento, Honda City, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and Skoda Laura. Since the price bracket is dense, there seems to be tough road ahead for Nissan Sylphy in India.

Nissan Sylphy Mileage and Fuel Efficiency

Nissan Sylphy is expected to be launched in petrol version only. However, a diesel powered model is also imminent. The petrol powered car Sylphy despite of having 133 PS on the power output manages to have a decent mileage of around 16.32 kmpl which is quite exceptional for a car of this size. The Sylphy is also low on carbon emissions with only 193 g/kg CO2 output. Thus it is high on power but low on emissions and exhaust emissions. A mileage of 16.32 kmpl on petrol could lead it in the segment.

Nissan Sylphy Engine, Power and Performance

The Nissan Sylphy engine is MR20DE codenamed 4-cylinder, In-line, DOHC with CVTC (Continuously Variable-valve Timing Control) that comes integrated with a balancer shaft in order to reduce engine vibration and thus reduces engine noise and offers enhanced quieter interiors. The engine is petrol powered and has a displacement of 1997 cc the outputs 133 PS of power at 5200 rpm and a peak torque of 191 Nm at 4400 rpm. The engine has integrated electronic fuel injection system in place the enable smooth inflow of the unleaded petrol vapors inside the engine pots.

The 2 L engine is all aluminium made and has been specially designed to offer high performance at lower speeds and at high speeds on the highway as well.

Notably, there are reports that a 1.8 L based Nissan Sylphy will also be launched in India that will reduces its price further. Also, it could be possible that Nissan could think of introducing the 1.5 L Nissan Sunny engine onto the Nissan Sylphy with high power output.

In tandem with the XTRONIC Continuously Variable Transmission system, the Nissan car performs well on the road.
