Audi A1 would overshadow competition in luxury segment
Pros : Good looks, low price, good expected fuel economy
Cons : Not known as of now
I am a Vice President at the HR department at Ernst & Young, Gurgaon. I am fond of Audi cars and would love to own one, I have enrolled myself for the weekly newsletter sent by one of the popular websites and there I read this news regarding the probability of launch of Audi A1. When I read the details I was surprised to know that the Audi A1 price in India is likely to be placed at Rs 19 lakhs. This made me so happy and I wanted to confirm whether the news of launch of this car is true and if the car would come with such an affordable price tag. Audi currently offers Audi Q3 as the least expensive vehicle in its clan in India; however I am more inclined to buy a hatchback. The Audi A1 is believed to be launched in India in both petrol as well as diesel engine options.
The petrol trims will be offered in 1.2 litre TFSI, 1.4 litre TFSI engine options while the diesel variants will be available in 2.0 litre TDI and 1.6 litre TDI engine options. The power and torque generated by these is quite high and will help the vehicle to render a good performance. I am not concerned much about the mileage but what I have read is that the car will deliver fuel efficiency between 14 to 17 kmpl. I might opt for the petrol engine as I have no plans as of now to go for a diesel engine.
The diesel engine on the other hand is expected to be highly frugal and offer 22 kmpl that is too much for a luxury car, but since it is meant for the Indian market so along with low price mileage has to be good too. I look forward to the launch date of this car; however there is yet no hint about the same.

ReplyTill last week, I was also a fan of German cars. BMW, AUDI,Merc and Voxwagon in that order. But after reading this report ( cars.uk.msn.com/features/the-best-and-worst-car-brands-for-engine-reliability#image=21) where AUDI is shown as third least reliable car engine, my fascination of German cars have definitely reduced. Mercedes appears to have the most reliable engine amongst the German cars. But most reliable engine title goes to HONDA as per this report, the second best being Toyota. I will wait for Mercedes to bring something exciting in the market place, though I am a great fan of BMW.
