Quanto’s future is uncertain

I read that Mahindra & Mahindra is going to come with Mahindra Quanto this year. Frankly speaking, I love the Scorpio and the XUV 500, but as far large Xylo is concerned I don’t like its ugly styling. Rather than introducing the compact version of Xylo, Mahindra could have introduced the mini Bolero. Mahindra Quanto is no doubt going to be offered at a cheaper price, but its success is still doubtful as there are several other options like Tata Sumo Grande, Tata Sumo Victa, and Mahindra Bolero available at a price of Rs. 5 lakh.

In addition, I heard that its going to carry a 1.5 liter diesel engine. I think that the power from the 1.5 liter engine would not be capable enough to compete with the available 2.0 liter engined MPVs. Looks are quite compact than the present Xylo, therefore, I m doubtful if this car will have seating capacity for more than 5 passengers. Earlier, brand like Skoda also attempted to introduce the compact crossover, Yeti, which has been a flop product on the Indian sub-continent. It would not be that easy for quanto to get a grip on the entry level MPV segment as Maruti Suzuki is also going to introduce compact MPV, Maruti Ertiga. I expect that at least the maintenance of this car is going to be nominal.

I think that Quanto would be able to survive in the automobile market only if it will be introduced with all the modern safety features like ABS, EBD, Dual Airbags, Adjustable driver seat, Rear seat headrests, Central locking, Keyless Entry etc., that too at a price less than 5 lakh. I would like to sum up now, hoping that this ugly duckling will have a good future in the domestic market.
