Auction of Few Most Expensive Cars

There would be hardly anyone in this world who must not be aware about the concept of term “Auction” where different items are bided by auctioneer and person throwing highest bid succeeds in buying that item. Normally, it is believed that during auction, only expensive property assets are placed for bidding. But, history is evident of fact that from time to time people have also placed their luxurious cars for auction and interestingly these cars were open heartedly accepted by buyers paying higher price than their actual cost. Thus, auction being a beneficial deal for auctioneer.

 

Let us have a glimpse of few most expensive cars sold in auction during seven to eight decades:

 

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO

Priced $38.1m, it is one of the most expensive car sold even in the history of car auctioning. Initially, the car was developed for racing purpose but because of Ferrari’s failure in developing 100 more units of the same car during competition, the car was placed for auction.

1954 Mercedes W196

Driven for five times by world champion Juan Manuel Fangio, the car was sold during Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed auction in 2013. During its peak time, the car won Grand Prixs on several occasions.

1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale

Only three units of this state of art were built by Ferrari, empowered with a 316 bhp 3.2 litre V12 engine. It was developed with light weight aluminium.

1954 Ferrari 375 Plus Spider Competizione

Sold for £10.7 million during Goodwood Festival of Speed held last year, this car was developed with 4.9 litre V-12 engine succeeded in winning Sports car championship in 1954.

1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

This incredible initiative from Ferrari succeeded in winning Le Mans competition in 1958, 1960 and 1961 for three times. But, finally it was sold by Gooding and Company in 2011.

Only 56 units of this master piece were developed by the Ferrari. However, the car underwent for auction in August last year at Pebble Beach.

Ferrai 250 LM was the last member from Ferrari family which succeeded in winning Le Mans car race in 1965.

1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta Competizione

Driven by three world champion namely Mike Hawthorn, Alberto Ascari and Nino Farina, MM Berlinetta Competizione was one of the three cars from Ferrari which participated in Le Mans car race in 1953.
