Chevrolet Sail hatch launches in mid of 2012, Sail sedan by end of the year
General Motors India has finally announced to launch its premium hatchback, Chevrolet Sail by mid of 2012. The Sail hatchback has been developed by GM in joint venture with its Chinese alliance partner SAIC. Company is expecting the Sail hatchback to sell a good number due to its capacious interiors and its availability in both petrol and diesel in-lines. With the launch of Chevy Sail, GM will have a B+ segment hatchback member added into its portfolio, that too with a diesel engine which the company has been desperately looking for.

The Sail hatchback is speculated to come powered by a 1.2 liter S-TEC II petrol engine that will have efficiency to toss peak power of 82 bhp. It will also have another 1.3 liter Multi-jet turbo diesel engine option available which is developed by General Motors along with Fiat. With this premium hatchback available in diesel inline options too, the company might get good sales volume in the B+ segment.

GM is also going to introduce the sedan model of the Sail, by end of the year. Interestingly, the Sail sedan would also be offered in the petrol and diesel engine options. The company will install the Sail petrol with a 1.4 Liter S-TEC II engine, while, the diesel variants would be powered by a 1.3 liter Multijet turbo diesel engine. The company will bring the Sail sedan in the market to compete with some of the most selling mid-size sedans like Toyota Etios and the Maruti Swift Dzire.

Lowell Paddock, Managing Director, General Motors India earlier stated that they are would be entering the premium hatchback segment with the launch of Sail hatchback by middle of the year. He added that this segment has been consistently growing and the company is quite confident to get a good response from it. He also commented that they would unveil the sedan version of this car by end of the year.
