General Motors to launch competitors of Dzire and Etios

General Motors (GM) the US based car maker in India is geared up to challenge Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar on the domestic shores with the launch of its debut entry level three-box by this festive season. The car maker that currently battles with the limited sedans like the Aveo, the Optra and the Cruze will have added premium hatchback, the Chevrolet Sail in its portfolio by this June or July, however, the sedan built on the same platform is speculated to be brought in the market by this year end.

The General Motors India (GMI), President and Managing Director, Lowell Paddock stated that they will debut in the premium hatchback segment with the launch of Sail hatchback by mid of this year. He added that there is an ample of scope in the premium hatchback segment for growth and they are confident that this product would be a boon for increasing their volume. He added that the sedan version of this car will be introduced by this year end. With the launch of Sail hatchback and sedan variants, the car maker would seek to grab the share of some of the most selling sedans like Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire.

The sales of GM have not been up to mark in last couple of years; however, they are sure enough to get back the momentum with many new launches by end of the year. Speaking about the last year downfall Paddock stated that they struggled last year as no fresh product was introduced, but now they expect to get fruitful results with three new launches lined up and two refined products down on the track.

Besides, the Sail hatchback and sedan, the company has also slated the launch of a seven seater MPV for this year. GM is going to launch the new cars on the domestic auto-market, considering the categories in which maximum sales have been recorded last year. Sources reveal that around 39,000 premium hatchbacks and 20,000 mid size sedans per month are sold on the domestic shores.
