Hyundai Eon vs. Maruti Alto K10

If there is any car that has in reality given a tough fight to Maruti’s Alto K10, it is Hyundai Eon. The Hyundai small car Eon is evidently becoming a prime entry level option for hatchback buyers in India, where the preference was first given to Alto. Also, the Eon has an edge in overall design and styling due to its being a fresh arrival in the market.  

If we compare the interiors of Maruti Alto K10 with Eon, the difference speaks out itself. Though the two do not promise acres of space inside, being hatchbacks both Eon and Alto have decent space for five. However, the Eon looks smaller from the outside but has comfortable seating for five six-feet men. The K10 cabin is the same just like the age old Alto with changes such as a new tachometer and three pod layout. The Eon on the other hand has a dual tone colored interiors that is welcoming. There are aluminum inserts on the doors and dash that further help boost the premium look of the Eon.

If we talk of power Alto is a sure winner with the 998cc K10 engine revving 68PS compared to Eon that has an 814cc engine with a max power of 56PS. Both the cars have 5-speed transmission. With the power factor in favor of Alto K10, Eon craves for power sometimes.

Even after being heavier than Eon, the Alto K10 reaches 100 kmph mark in just 15.2 seconds with a maximum speed of 153 kmph while Eon reaches the figure in 19.08 seconds and can throttle to 131 kmph only. A comparison of Eon and Alto mileage ARAI tests reveal that the later also has a plus in this respect. Alto wins with 16.3 kmpl in city compared to Eon’s 15.6. On the highway as well, K10 performs well and returns 26.3 kmpl compared to 24.3 kmpl by Eon.

Eon or Alto which one is better in ride and handling

With similar type of suspension system, both the cars have the same DNA in ride and handling however, Alto seems to better understand and deal with Indian road that has more of potholes than tar. At speeds, Eon is better with the streamline body and better control. Corners are like slicing bread for Alto but an understeer is felt of the Eon.

Alto has three variants. It starts at Rs 3.25 lakh and offers power steering and air conditioning in the LXi model. Where the top model VXi priced at Rs 3.38 lakh you get front power windows, central locking, fog lamps, and trip meter. On the other hand, Eon price starts at Rs 2.83 and is available in six variants. The base variant Eon Era has AC, power steering and tinted glasses while the Eon Magna has adjustable steering, front power windows, 2DIN stereo, USB and aux ports in addition at just Rs 3.50 lakh. The top Eon Sportz model at Rs 3.89 lakh offers first in class features.  

Eon Vs Alto the Final word

Though car buying is a personal preference but amidst many offerings in this segment it is wise to look at them closely before finally deciding a car. Eon is a sure winner compared to Alto due to its fresh styling, but in terms of mileage and power, Alto takes the lead. Where ride and handling department is better taken care of by Eon, Alto knows Indian roads better than the Koreans. If you are the out of the box thinking types, Hyundai Eon will surely impress you. However it could be hard to convince your family members.
