French car maker Renault has decided to increase the price of its first small car offering in India- Renault Pulse by 2 percent from coming March 8. The diesel powered Renault small car was launched at the 2012 Auto Expo and was then subsequently launched in various parts of the country. The Renault Pulse price in India currently starts at Rs 5.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and with the new pricing in place, the new starting price will be around Rs 5.88 lakh ex showroom Delhi. Notably, it is a tradition to launch a car at an introductory price and later on the company increases the price marginally. And Renault is doing no different. However, with the launch of Renault Pulse in diesel only make, Renault is able to capture a major junk of premium car segment and auto experts predict a further boost in the share with the launch of Renault Pulse petrol in the coming months. Prime contenders to Pulse are Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20 and Renault sibling and Renault Pulse’s senior Nissan Micra beside others in the segment.

Justifying the price rise, Marc Nassif, Managing Director, Renault India Pvt Ltd has reportedly said that the price rise is inevitable in a situation when the input costs have risen considerably and Renault has no other option but to go for a price rise. But he assured that only a part of the burden is being transferred on to the customers.

Since Pulse is the outcome of Renault’s philosophy of bringing value products at affordable price to its customers, there has been only a marginal price rise of 2 percent. Significantly, even at the raised prices Pulse will be quite affordable commensurate with the 1.5L dCi diesel engine that is high on performance and low on fuel consumption besides a lot of features that adds value to the car.
