Safest hatchbacks in India
The Indian car market is flooded with hatchbacks. The recent addition is the Maruti Alto 800. It is a segment that is the hottest and most lucrative of all. Recently, the segment has undergone a change. Where power steering and power windows and other features were part of the top models, these have started appearing on the base models as well. However, safety features such as airbags, electronic brake force distribution aka EBD and Anti lock Braking system aka ABS are still to make their place in every hatchback. In an array of hatchbacks, there are five hatchbacks in the under Rs 5.5 lakh price that can be termed as the safest. Above this price, the features often are part of the base variants as well.
Maruti A Star
The first in the series is the Maruti A Star which is the export model of Maruti India and it is a car which is of global standards. Though price heftily in India, the A Star still manages to secure its place among small cars that are the safest. The top end variant of this car comes loaded with ABS, EBD and air bags that take care of any untoward incident.
Ford Figo
The Ford Figo has just got new looks and new feature additions making it a strong competitor of Maruti Swift that it has always been. The Figo Titanium model is the high end variant and this variant comes loaded with air bags, ABS, EBD and lots of other safety features.
Maruti Ritz
This is the entry level diesel hatchback by Maruti and it has recently got the automatic version on the top of the line petrol variant. This same manual and automatic transmission variant comes loaded with safety features that make it abreast with international standards.

Honda Brio
This is not just another small car but a wonder car that has pulled Honda car sales in India out of slumber. The Brio V MT variant is the one that pronounces the safety first slogan vociferously.
Nissan Micra
This is the first and the best selling hatchback by the Japanese car maker. The top model Micra VX the has a price tag of Rs 5.51 lakh comes with ABS, EBD and a driver airbag.
Other cars on the list include Maruti Swift, Renault Pulse and Skoda Fabia among others and the safety consciousness increases as the price of the car reaches Rs 6 lakh or above.
