Recently the country’s first Solar Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at the Karnal Lake Resort was inaugurated by the Union Heavey Industries Minister Dr Mahindra Nath Pandey. With this inauguration, the Delhi-Chandigarh highway is the first electronic-vehicle friendly highway in the country. The electric vehicle charging station is located at the centre of the Delhi-Chandigarh highway. It is capable to charge all types of electric cars driven in the country. The government is working to upgrade the existing electric vehicle charging stations on the highway within the year.

 

 

The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has set up the first solar-based electric vehicle in the country under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) & Electric Vehicles in India) scheme initiated by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The inaugural ceremony was done virtually by the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and attended by Secretary (MHI) Arun Goel, and the Chairman & Managing Director, BHEL, Dr Nalin Singhal.

 

This solar electric vehicle charging station is a part of the government’s endeavour towards encouraging the use of electric vehicles and green energy. In his speed delivered on Independence Day, honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also revealed his vision towards the security of the environment and nation. Addressing the inaugural session of the electric solar charging station, Ministry of Heavey Industries, Dr Pandey said, “the Hon’ble PM has clearly highlighted that environment security has the same importance as national security and that India is making all efforts towards becoming energy independent.”

 

It would be interesting to know that India is working hard to achieve the objective of green energy. The government now plans to set up such EV charging stations at a distance of every 25-30 km. Doing this will help in removing the anxiety of the electric vehicle users and boost them to use their vehicles for inter-city movement.
