10 Safest Cars In India According to Global NCAP
The car ratings determined by the global safety agency are the certificate of authentication that a particular car is safe for driving on the road. Recently, the agency has listed 38 Indian cars that are manufactured in India and equipped with all the necessary safety measures. Interestingly, the home-grown car makers Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra dominate the list. Below is the list of top 10 cars among the 38 selected cars considered safe according to Indian roads.

1. Mahindra XUV 300 is listed at the top position from the safety point of view. Launched back in 2014 the compact SUV succeeded in receiving the Global NCAP’s first-ever “Safer Choice Award” by receiving five stars in global NCAP rating for adult occupants and four ratings for the child occupants.

2. Tata Altroz, the recent initiative by the domestic carmaker Tata Motors succeeded in receiving the five-star rating during the crash test conducted by Global NCAP. Equipped with two front airbags as a standard feature in all the trims, the Altroz hatchback has been appreciated for its stable structure and footwell area. Besides, this it also provides complete protection to the head, neck, and chest to all the passengers.

3. Tata Nexon, the compact SUV from Tata Motors received the four stars during the global NCAP test. It received four stars for protecting the adult passengers and three for child occupants. The body of the compact-SUV stood stable during the crash test. The compact SUV has also received an encouraging response from the Indian buyers.

4. Tata Tigor and Tiago: The compact sedan Tigor and the hatchback Tiago by the Tata Motors have been placed at 4th and 5th position respectively in the list. Both the cars were granted four stars for adult passengers and three stars for child passengers. Both of them are equipped with front-seat airbags as a standard feature in all the variants.

5. Volkswagen Polo: The Polo hatchback by the German carmaker Volkswagen has succeeded in making its position as the 6th safest car in India. During the crash test, it was noticed that there was no damage to the front seat passengers and also protecting the rear seat passengers including the children.

6. Mahindra Marazzo, the MPV by the Mahindra & Mahindra was launched back in 2018 and according to the global NCAP it received the following comments, “The protection offered to the driver and passenger’s head and neck was good. The driver’s chest showed marginal protection while the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. The child seat for the 3-year-old was installed forward-facing with ISOFIX and top tether and was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact leaving the head vulnerable while fair protection was offered to the chest."

7. Toyota Etios Hatchback by the Japanese carmaker Toyota Motors was launched almost 10 years back and going through the success enjoyed by it, the compact launched its sedan version Liva which also succeeded in receiving an encouraging response from the Indian buyers. According to the global NCAP agency, “In the frontal impact, the driver and passenger's heads were both well protected by the airbags and seatbelts. There were hazardous structures in the area of the facia that could be impacted by occupants' knees. The child seat for the 1 and 5-year-old child was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. The 3-year-old exceeded the forward excursion limit."

8. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the compact SUV from the Indo-Japanese car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited is the only car from the leading carmaker in India to make its position in the list of top 10 safest cars in India. In the words of comments given by the global NCAP agency, "The protection offered to the driver and passenger head and neck was good. The driver's chest showed marginal protection while the passenger's chest showed good protection. Driver’s knees showed marginal protection and passenger’s knees marginal and good protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube. The bodyshell was rated as stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings."

9. Tata Zest is the compact sedan manufactured again by the domestic carmaker Tata Motors. It was for the first time showcased during the Indian Auto Expo 2014. According to the statement given by the global NCAP, “The protection offered to the driver's head was Adequate due to bottoming out of the driver airbag. The front passengers’ knees could impact with dangerous structures in the dashboard lie the Tran fascia tube. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding any further loadings. The child seat for the 3-year-old child was unable to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact."
