In a statement issued by the company, “It is suspected that there is a possible defect in rear seat belt mounting brackets (“Parts”), which is a rare case, may loosen in the long run and impact its functionality”.  The carmaker also said that the defective part will be inspected and replaced by authorised dealerships across the country free of cost. The company has started communicating with buyers of these units.

This recall by Maruti Suzuki India has come at a time when it has recorded a decline of 9 per cent in its sales. The company recorded sales of 1,39,347 units sold in December 2022 as compared to 1,53,149 units sold during the same period in 2021. Commenting on this, the sources of the company said, "The shortage of electronic components had some impact on the production of vehicles, mainly in domestic models. The company took all possible measures to minimize the impact”.
