46,555 Units Sold by Maruti Suzuki Amid Lockdown
According to sales statistics revealed by Maruti Suzuki India Limited it sold 46,555 units in the Month of May 2021, amid lockdown due to COVID-19. The most important reason for decline in the sales is the completel lockdown imposed in most of the states due to the second wave of global pandemic. Following the restrictions initiated by the government the Indo-Japanese carmaker had shut down its production activities between May 1, 2021 and May 16, 2021. As a result of this the company recorded a decline of almost 71% in the total sales on Month-on-Month (MoM) basis. In April 2021, the company sold 1,59, 691 units, and then recorded a massive decline of 18, 539 units sold in May 2020 due to complete lockdown imposed in the whole country.
The company sold 33,771 units in the domestic market which is about 75% less than compared to 137,151 units sold in April 2021. The domestic sales made by the company in May 2020 stood at 13, 865 units. The sales of entry-level vehicles, subcompact sedans, compact hatchbacks stood at 25,103 units whereas the company sold 349 units of compact sedan Ciaz. The sales of utility vehicles including Vitara Brezza, XL6, S-Cross, Gypsy, and Ertiga stood at 6,355 units.
Along with these vehicles the company also sold 1096 units Eeco Van and 868 units of., light commercial vehicle Super Carry during the same period. The exports made by the company in the month of May 2021 stood at 11, 262 units which is 35% less than compared to 17,237 exported during April 2021. Commenting on the reason for decline in the sales the sources of company as production during both the months was not regular therefore company sales of May 2021 with the sales of May 2020 is not relevant.
