65 Units Of Tata Nexon EV Delivered To Kerala Motor Vehicle Department

It is reported that the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has received 65 units of the compact SUV Nexon EV from the domestic carmaker Tata Motors, as a part of its ‘Safe Kerala’ programme. The 65 units of Nexon EV has been given on the lease to the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department for the period of eight years from the Energy Efficiency Services Limited through the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology.
 
It would be interesting to know that to cope with the increasing problem of pollution and heavy traffic on roads the state government of Kerala has initiated the ‘Safe Kerala’ programme to offer safe driving conditions to the natives. This includes providing appropriate training to the drivers raising awareness for the use of pedestrians, safe roads, and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.

Under the hood, the EV Nexon is empowered with a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery that is capable of boosting the power of 129 bhp mated with a permanent magnet AC motor developing the torque of 245Nm. It offers an average of 312 km after charged fully. It takes almost 8-9 hours in charging the battery to its fullest level with the help of regular 15A AC charger and can be charged up to 80% of its fullest level in an hour with the help of DC fast charger. It is capable of touching the mark of 100 kmph in the duration of 9.9 seconds.
 
Addressing the event of delivering the 65 units of Nexon EV to Kerala Motor Vehicle Department, Mr Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The Kerala Govt. has been at the forefront of initiating several measures to enhance public safety. We are grateful to ANERT for driving this initiative on behalf of the Kerala Government and look forward to a fruitful partnership with them and MVD. We are indeed proud that the Nexon EV is their preferred choice for the ‘Safe Kerala’ special project on road safety. The Nexon EV has emerged as India’s best-selling electric car, commanding a 63% market share in the personal EV segment and through these orders, we are hopeful that we will continue to lead the market.”
