All Mahindra vehicles to be offered with option of petrol engine
Although the ban on diesel vehicles with more than 2,000 cc displacement capacity in Delhi-NCR has been lifted by the Supreme Court of India, but it seems that car manufacturers are not yet sure about the future of diesel vehicles in Indian car market. According to recent industry reports domestic car maker Mahindra and Mahindra has announced that all the vehicles that will be manufactured by company from 2018 onwards will be offered with an option of petrol engine.
The news regarding this announcement was confirmed by Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra and Mahindra. According to Dr. Goenka, “any product that we launch from a year after will come with a petrol engine. We are currently working on a 1.5L petrol engine. So the petrol engines powering the future vehicles will be either of the three: 1.2L, 1.5L or 2.0L”.
At present only KUV100 from M&M is being offered with petrol variant, which is empowered with 1.2 mFalcon three cylinder petrol engine churning the power of 82 bhp and torque of 115Nm. It is reported that home grown car maker is soon going to empower TUV300 and Mahindra NuvoSport with 1.5 litre petrol engine. The same engine configuration is also reported to be introduced in new Ssangyoung which is being developed on X100 platform.
