Amazon India And Mahindra Electric Collaborate For Electric Mobility
Online shopping giant Amazon India and the domestic auto manufacturing giant Mahindra Electric have joined hands to encourage the use of electric mobility in the country. According to the sources the e-commerce website Amazon had announced to add 10,000 electric vehicles in its fleet for delivering its products across the country by 2025. These electric vehicles will be a part of the Climate Pledge signed by Amazon to add 1, 00,000 electric vehicles to its delivery fleet by 2030 to protect the environment from the impacts of increasing pollution.
Joining the hands with Mahindra Electric Amazon will deploy 100 Mahindra Treo Zor vehicles in seven cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore, Lucknow, Bhopal, and New Delhi for delivering its products. The homegrown carmaker Mahindra had launched the Treo Zor back in October 2020. It is empowered with an advanced Lithium-ion Battery and embellished with the facility of instant charging, thus making it easier to charge them according to the need. It would be interesting to know that Amazon was the first group that signed the Climate Pledge back in 2019 agreeing to make its business zero carbon by 2040. To achieve this objective the company plans to include 10,000 electric in its delivery fleet by 2022, and 1, 00,000 vehicles by 2030.

Commenting on the partnership with Amazon, Mr Mahesh Babu, MD & CEO, Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd said “We are proud to partner with Amazon in deploying Mahindra Treo Zor EV in their delivery partners’ fleet. We believe, this will redefine India’s logistics and last-mile delivery needs and at the same time help Mahindra and Amazon to achieve our sustainability goals. Treo Zor offers a unique customer value proposition with best-in-industry power of 8 kW, and a highest-in-class payload of 550 kg. We are happy that this made-in-India electric cargo will contribute towards Amazon’s delivery partner fleet transformation towards EVs in the country. The success of our Treo range of three-wheelers has proved that electric vehicles in the last mile segment are a win-win solution for our customers as well as the larger society.”
On the other side, Mr Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA & LATAM, Amazon said, “We are committed to building a supply chain that will minimize the environmental impact of our operations. The expansion of our Electric Vehicle fleet to 10,000 vehicles by 2025 is an integral milestone in our journey to become a sustainability leader in the industry. We continue to work with several OEMs to build a fleet of ‘Made in India’ electric vehicles that ensure sustainable and safe deliveries of customer orders, and this partnership with Mahindra Electric is a testament of our commitment.”
