Audi India aims to sell 50,000 units pm by 2020

In a bid to make the most of the high growth potential exists in the Indian auto market, the Germany based leading luxury car maker Audi is planning an aggressive expansion of its India operations with the launch of a series of new portfolio models and further enhancement of its dealership network. The company is aiming to take its per annum sales in India to as much as 50,000 units by year 2020.

In calendar year 2011, the company managed to sell a total of 5,511 units of its cars in the Indian auto market, much lesser as compared to the company’s global sales of about 1.5 million vehicles in the same year. Also, the brand Audi sales in India were much lower as compared to the same of its Chinese counterpart, which stood over 3 lakh units in last calendar year. Audi’s growth plan 2020, the firm’s, major focus will be on the markets like India, Brazil and Russia.

At present, Audi India shares its manufacturing facility with Skoda at their Aurangabad plant. However, Audi’s  German parent Volkswagen is looking forward to set-up a new unit for this luxury car maker at Chakan near Pune.

Meanwhile, the company is all set to launch its Q3 Sports Utility Vehicle in the Indian auto market, where it will be taking on with the likes of BMW X1. The Audi Q3 is expected to further strengthen company’s position in the Indian auto market with driving high volumes for the brand.

Audi is currently the third largest selling luxury car brand in India following its arch rivals at top two spots including BMW and Mercedes Benz, respectively. The firm aims to be the top luxury car seller in India by year 2014-15.
