B-NCAP Ratings To Be Necessary For Cars In India

Taking a step ahead toward the safety features offered in cars, the government of India is going to make star rating mandatory for upcoming cars. This rating will be based on factors like their performance during the crash test and other attributes. According to government sources, it is important to ensure that the vehicles in India are as safe as the vehicles in developed countries. However, it will be necessary for the automakers to ensure that all safety measures are followed accordingly. The lower rating will not affect the existence of the manufacturer.

The ratings of cars in India will also help in increasing the worth of cars manufactured in India and exported to other countries. In a statement given by a government official "Getting a 4- or 5-star rating is not mandatory, unlike the norms in certain countries”. To control the increasing number of accidents on the roads, the government of India is taking multiple initiatives including the latest traffic monitoring system, technologies based on artificial intelligence, the production of sturdier vehicles, and many more.

It is surprising to know that the total number of vehicles in India is only one per cent of total vehicles in the world, despite this India is placed in the third position in the number of accidents.  According to statistics every year there are almost 5,00,000 traffic accidents, resulting in the death of 150,000 people.

According to a government official "Our regulations are evolving. We are studying Global-NCAP models in the United States, Europe, and Korea, and are engaging with manufacturers before notifying the norms."
