Beat Diesel pushes Chevy car sales up to 13 percent, new Tavera sales booming

Chevrolet India has registered 13 percent growth in sales in March. Credit: Chevrolet Beat Diesel and Beat Diesel only as it constituted 50 percent of the overall sales achieved by the American car maker. The Chevrolet Tavera that has recently added a BSIV to its line up contributed to the 20 percent sales of Chevrolet cars in India. Overall, Chevrolet sold 10,588 cars in India in March compared to 9391 cars in March 2011. The Beat diesel remained the winner at 5638 units sold last month and General Motors India credits the 24 Kmpl fuel efficiency and performance of the car to be behind the sales growth of the hatchback.

Chevrolet Tavera also helped boost car sales in March this year which was feared to have average sales as car prices shot up due to the excise hike in the budget. However, the pre budget sales have balanced the downturn and overall there was positive sales in the financial year ender. Tavera was recently launched in the BSIV version that also clicked and helped Chevrolet enter the metros where in fact the biggies in the taxi and fleet operators are stationed. Notably, Chevrolet Tavera is also extensively used in the taxi segment due to its low maintenance and low per kilometer run. As per the official reports by Chevrolet, Tavera has for the first time in 5 years crossed the 2000 car unit sales in a month target.

The Beat on the other hand has yet again proved that it is worth the name. March has been exceptional for Beat as it has recorded the highest sales since its launch. Elated over the performance of Beat Diesel and Tavera MPV, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India has said that Beat Diesel’s performance and the recent introduction of Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BSIV will help further boost Chevrolet car sales in India. In addition to these two other Chevrolet cars such as Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Cruze and Captiva SUV also registered good sales. Meanwhile entry level small car by Chevrolet which is the Chevrolet Spark also registered 1879 unit car sales in March. Furthermore, the upcoming Chevrolet cars including Chevrolet Sail hatchback and Sedan besides the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV are believed to further the presence of the American auto maker in India.
