BMW To Try iX Electric SUV With An Advanced Battery System

According to recent reports, the German luxurious carmaker BMW will empower its upcoming iX SUV with the battery developed by Our Next Energy Group (ONE). In a statement issued by the carmaker, the new battery system is endorsed to deliver long-range on a single charge. It is said that the battery developed by the Michigan-based battery maker will consist of two types of battery cells. Among these two battery cells, one will be capable of storing more energy and will deliver an average of 965 km or more. In the words of ONE’s sources, the prototype of the iX electric SUV will be completed by the end of this year.

In the words of Mujeeb Ijaz, founder of ONE and CEO, the new battery will minimize the use of traditional electric batteries like cobalt, lithium, graphite, and nickel. Moving ahead, Ijaz added that his company is using multiple electrodes in its battery to analyze its cost, sustainability, and energy. According to him, the production version of the battery will be available in three different sizes and prices. He also included that the low-end version of the battery will be equivalent to the existing batteries manufactured by nickel and cobalt.

It would be interesting to know that since its foundation in 2020, ONE has focused on developing batteries that offer long-range averages and are developed with safe and durable materials. One of the same batteries was tested in an S sedan from Tesla. The prototype of the battery used in the sedan delivered an average of 1,200 km on a single charge. Encouraged by the results delivered by ONE’s battery the executive officer of BMW, Juergen Hildinger said, the company is finding opportunities "to integrate ONE's battery technologies into models of our future BEV (battery electric vehicle) product lineup”.
