BMW i8: Launch in Indian car market expected in February 2015
After showcasing its first hybrid sports car i8 during Indian Auto Expo 2014, German car maker BMW is all set to launch it in Indian car market during the second week of February 2015. Empowered with 1.5 litre 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine boosting the power of 231 PS and torque of 320 Nm. The integration of an electric motor further enhances its power and torque generation efficiency to 131 PS and 250Nm respectively. Thus making the total power of 362 PS followed by torque of 570Nm.
It is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 crores and will be brought in Indian car market through completely built unit (CBU). The sports car was showcased and unveiled by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who is also the brand ambassador of this car during the Indian Auto Expo 2014. Apart from this powerful sports car, other cars showcased by car maker were 3 Series Gran Turismo, M6 Gran Coupe and X5.
An interesting feature about BMW i8 is its weight which measures 1490 kgs despite of integrating huge battery pack. This might be due to use of carbon fiber for developing it. The sports car generate the speed from standstill to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds and touches the top mark of 250 kmph, followed by an impressive average of 37 kmpl while driving completely on electric version.
