Bookings For Tata Tiago CNG And Tigor CNG Starts

The domestic carmaker Tata Motors has started receiving the bookings for the CNG variants of its best selling hatchback Tiago and compact sedan Tigor. The carmaker has been planning to step into the segment for a long time. At present, the segment is dominated by Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Hyundai Motors India. According to sources, the company has planned to step into the segment quite early, but due to the semiconductor shortage and pandemic, it postponed the project. Now, the company is finally going to launch the first fleet of its CNG cars this month and has initiated their bookings as well.

It is reported that both Tiago and Tigor will be equipped with factory-fitted CNG kits. Under the hood, they will receive power from a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns the power of 85 bhp and the torque of 113Nm. In its CNG version, this engine is believed to develop slight lesser power close to 70-75 bhp and the torque close to 100Nm.

The transmission duties in both the CNG trims of Tiago and Tigor will be performed by a manual gear transmission system. As far as looks of the upcoming variants are concerned they will look identical to their standard versions, except the CNG badge mounted on the tailgate. The CNG variants are believed to be priced Rs 50,000 higher than their petrol versions.

After launch in the Indian car market, the Tata Tiago will go against the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Hyundai Santro, while the Tata Tigor will be in direct competition with Hyundai Aura.
