Buying Hybrid Cars To Get Cheaper In Uttar Pradesh
In an important move to promote cleaner fuel vehicles, the Uttar Pradesh government has waived off the registration tax on hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the state. This decision is set to make hybrid cars more affordable for consumers.
As an impact of this decision prices of such cars manufactured by Toyota Motor, Honda Cars, and Maruti Suzuki have dynamically slashed. Popular models like the Toyota Innova HyCross, Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Grand Vitara, and Honda City hybrid will now see price cuts, resulting in savings exceeding Rs 3 lakh depending on the model.

Impact on Popular Models:
- Toyota Innova HyCross: Launched in 2022, the Innova HyCross MPV with strong hybrid technology is priced between Rs 25.31 lakh and Rs 30.98 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new tax waiver, buyers can save between Rs 2.53 lakh to Rs 3.10 lakh on this popular three-row vehicle.
- Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder: The price of the strong hybrid variants of this SUV starts from Rs16.66 lakh (ex-showroom). Previously, the registration tax was nearly Rs1.69 lakh, but now buyers can save up to Rs 2 lakh, especially on the top-end version priced at Rs19.97 lakh (ex-showroom).
- Maruti Suzuki Invicto: This three-row MPV, based on Toyota's Innova HyCross, is priced between Rs 25.30 lakh and Rs 29.01 lakh (ex-showroom). The registration tax waiver results in a reduction of at least Rs 2.65 lakh in overall cost.
- Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: The Grand Vitara SUV, co-developed with Toyota's HyRyder, has strong hybrid variants starting at Rs18.33 lakh (ex-showroom). The waiver of the Rs 1.95 lakh registration tax means buyers can save up to Rs 2.12 lakh on the top-end version.
- Honda City Hybrid: Honda's popular City sedan, equipped with e-strong hybrid technology, is priced from Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new policy, buyers can save up to Rs 2.17 lakh on the top-end variant, which is priced at Rs 20.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
This decision of the Uttar Pradesh government to waive tax is part of its strategy to encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles, aiming to reduce pollution and promote sustainable transportation solutions.
