Car launches this year – car makers bank on new cars to revive sales

It is after having struggled in 2011 that car sales in India picked up early this year but it is the petrol price hike that did the spoilsport and car sales plunged drastically recently. Now, car makers are banking on new car launches this year to reverse the dipping car sales trend. Where Mahindra will be launching Mahindra Xylo Mini and four other cars, Honda is expected to bring Honda Brio diesel and other diesel cars this Diwali. Meanwhile, Tata is also preparing the Tata Nano Diesel car and could launch it during the festive season.

In all there are over a dozen cars that will be hitting roads in the next six months. To begin with will be Renault Duster coming on July 4. It is a compact segment SUV that is expected to carry a price tag of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. Next to it will be five cars from Mahindra India including Mahindra Xylo Mini, Mahindra Verito based hatchback and Mahindra Reva NXR. There will also be two SUVs from the Mahindra owned Korean SUV maker Ssangyong. These will be Ssangyong Rexton and Ssangyong Korando. From the Chevrolet stable, there will be the Chevrolet Sail sedan and hatchback coming this year along with Chevrolet Enjoy MPV that could also make it to India this year. Nissan India on the other hand will be bringing in Toyota Innova rival Nissan Evalia MPV this year. From the French car maker Renault’s stable, a Nissan Sunny based sedan named Renault Scala will be launched most probably this year.

Honda has also lined up Honda Brio diesel, Honda City diesel and Honda Civic Diesel to be launched this year and it could be possible that the Japanese car maker could choose Diwali as the best time to launch cars in India as this is also the period when most of the car buying is witnessed. There will also be some surprise launched this Diwali as well.
