Car sales figures predict mixed performance this year
Term it bad luck or something that doesn’t want the industry to grow as the year 2012 has also been predicted to pose mixed results. Off to a good start in January and a series of launches including new Maruti Swift Dzire, new Maruti Swift, Maruti Ertiga and others after that, the Indian car industry has witnesses some of the worse performance breaker then. Whooping rise in Rs 7.5 per litre petrol was the severest that took the sheen off even Maruti, Hyundai and completely devastated Honda. Now it is only four months left which are the crucial ones indeed as this is the time when the industry witnesses highest car sales. But auto industry seers feel that there will be lukewarm car sales this year.

A close look at the performance of the car makers in July suggests that where Toyota Kirloskar July were sales up by 7 percent at 14,574 units, GM India July sales were down by 23%, Tata Motors sales were up 15%, Ford India sales dipped by 22% and M&M auto surged ahead by 18.73% last month. Thus where GM India, Ford succumbed to the ill weather, other car makers have put up some good numbers. Maruti India has posted a net growth of 9.2 percent and it shows the health of the industry that it is heading to a slowdown. Also Maruti could pose further dip in numbers following the no production of Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire sedan at the Manesar plant. Notably, these two cars are the best selling cars by Maruti after Maruti Alto.

Toyota earned green color on the sale chart following the good sales of Toyota Innova and SUV Fortuner. While, GM India had to suffer following dip in sales of Beat, Spark and other cars. Meanwhile, Tata Motors sales had gone gaga following good sales of Tata Indica and Indigo while Ford Figo and Ford Fiesta could not bring accolades for Ford India in July. Mahindra Motors on the other hand surged ahead with the Mahindra XUV 500 and Mahindra Verito. Notably, Mahindra could be the best selling car maker as it has laid an aggressive launch plan this year with five new cars coming in the next four months.
