Cars in India soon to have energy efficiency rating, high mileage cars to get thumbs-up
Soon cars in India will have star ratings similar to the ones India has for electrical goods. As per a wild guess Chevrolet Beat Diesel and Tata Nano will be given the title of best mileage cars and these could get the highest number of stars. A strategy to give rating to cars has been on cards and the determination of an early launch was reiterated by the Oil Minister at an occasion in the capital recently. It is believed that the rating will be helpful for the car buyers as they will be able to take an informed decision before buying any car. On the other hand, this will be a determining factor for some cars that are though low on mileage but are performance driven.
On the other hand those cars which deliver high mileage will get an instant boost in sales as these will be highlighted among the public as five star rating cars. Meanwhile, this will also trigger car makers to produce cars that have high mileage and are performance driven. Furthermore, the car which already are a hit in terms of mileage will get a fresh boost in sales. These include Renault Duster, Maruti Ertiga, Tata Nano, Tata Indigo eCS and others. It is also a proposal that India should attain fuel efficiency and a concern for environment as soon as possible and this rating system is a major step towards it.
The additional tax on diesel cars is also a similar attempt in order to protect the environment as diesel cars have high pollution content in their exhaust compared to petrol cars. Above, all this effort will result in the decrease in the import of fuels. As per reports, the government plan to reduce energy dependency by over 75 percent till 2025.
