Cars that performed remarkably well on the sales chart in FY12-13
For cars year 2012 was the worst. Though it is not better now but there are indications that it might improve in the coming years. Last fiscal year, sales did a nose dive by 7 percent and there was no pull up effect even after companies offering huge discounts to lure customers to the showrooms. Car makers such as Volkswagen, Skoda have offered EMI holiday on Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid for an year altogether while Nissan also promised the lowest possible EMIs. Where discounts almost rained from January through March 2012, there was little jump in sales. Meanwhile, there are some cars that have performed well even during the bad weather. These include Maruti Swift, Renault Duster, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti Ertiga. These three remained on top while Maruti Alto 800, though it came late but it has also performed well along with Hyundai i10 and the Mahindra XUV 500.

The cars can now be comfortable tagged as all time performers. Be it recession or a boom, these will perform exceedingly well. Why these have been termed so is because these have go the hearts of the car buyers in India and they bank upon these cars and look at them as the best performers in terms of mileage, looks, reliability and power. Where the Swift represents the hatchback segment, the Duster caters to the compact SUV market. Though market was not open for Swift but it had managed to outsell others. While it was all at the disposal of Duster to explore and harness the demand in the compact SUV segment.

The Ertiga too has emerged as the top selling car in difficult times. In fact, this car has prompted people to upgrade to it and consumer surveys show that people opted for it instead of sedans. Thus it is sure that these cars have something in them that has made them almost dent-proof at least in terms of sales and this is the reason why these spearhead as the best selling cars in the last fiscal.
