Chevrolet Spark EV global launch to start soon
The Global launch of the new electric car "Chevrolet Spark EV" will soon be started. It has already been announced for the US and will soon be made available at below US $20,000. But, it will only be sold in Oregon and California after official launch in June this year. It has also been reported that very soon the Chevrolet Spark EV will be launched in South Korea too. In Korean auto market the vehicle is expected to be offered at around 20 million won including government subsidies.
The new Chevrolet Spark EV is being assembled in GM Korea's Changwon plant and it will be exported to North American countries. In these markets, the new Spark EV price is expected to be lower than Nissan Leaf, Fiat 500e, and Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The major competition of the vehicle is with Nissan Leaf which has already achieved much popularity across the globe. After the US and Korea, GM could offer this electric version of the beautiful hatchback to Indian customers too.
In Indian auto market Chevrolet Spark is already being sold with name of Chevrolet Beat. Yet, it is being offered in three fuel options like petrol, diesel and LPG. The diesel model of the hatchback which houses a 1.0L Smartech motor which is known for impressive mileage of 25.44 Kmpl. Its electric version would be launched in Indian auto market by 2014. Notably, GM India is going to raise the Chevrolet car prices by up to Rs 10000 from 1st June 2013.
