Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV Slated For Launch in India on August 9
Citroen, the French auto manufacturer under the Stellantis brand, is all set to launch its fifth model in India, the Citroen Basalt. The launch event will happen on August 9, 2024, marking the launch of a different coupe SUV in the Indian car market. Speaking about the design of the Basalt Coupe SUV, its boxier body and external looks make it look different from its contenders. The coupe has already grabbed the attention of car enthusiasts in India, but its success mainly depends on the price. It is reported that the pricing of Citroen Basalt will surprise Indian buyers because, in a recent tweet, the French carmaker has hinted to be “unthinkable”.

The carmaker made its debut in the Indian car market in 2021 and since then it has launched three electric vehicles including C5 Aircross, C3 Aircross, and C3 hatchback. It is believed that with the launch of the Basalt Coupe SUV, the company will change the existing pattern.
Engine and Transmission Options: The Citroen Basalt will offer two petrol engine options. The first is a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine mated with a five-speed manual gearbox, generating the power of approximately 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. The other engine option will include a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, available with an automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual transmission, providing up to 108 bhp and torque ranging from 190 Nm to 205 Nm, depending on the transmission choice. The Basalt is claimed to offer an average between 18 kmpl and 19.5 kmpl, with the six-speed manual turbo version offering the highest mileage among the different variants.
Feature Highlights: As far as the features offered in Basalt are concerned, it is reported to come equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a seven-inch all-digital driver display, and wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional features include automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, and auto-folding ORVMs. Speaking about the boot space, it is approximately about 470 litres. The front fascia also features project LED headlights.
Competitors: After launch in the Indian car market, the Citroen Basalt will compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv, launching on September 2, 2024, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and Toyota Hyryder.
