Datsun could launch hatchback car followed by sedan and SUV
Nissan India has tasted success with two cars – Nissan Sunny and Nissan Micra. Now Nissan seems to take the lead in Indian car market with its Datsun cars. As per the latest Buzz, the car maker has revived the affordable car brand primarily for Russia and India. Preparing a ground for Datsun cars, the car maker has recently purchased a major stake in the Russian car maker AvtoVAZ and it is expected that it is at the plant of this car maker that Nissan will be producing Datsun cars. Meanwhile, in India, the car maker is already in joint venture with Renault India and thus it could also set up a different unit for the Datsun cars. It is believed that Nissan is searching for a new plant site and it has zeroed in Uttrakhand.

Nissan could base a car on the AvtoVaz in Russia and as per the insiders report it could even use the AvtoVaz Lada Granta sedan to develop a new Datsun car. The new car that will be developed will be an ultra low cost car and after an initial launch in Russia, a similar car could be developed for India with high level of localization to keep the cost down. As of now the Datsun car line up is still unclear as there is no official announcement regarding the line up by the Japanese car maker Nissan. Meanwhile, the anticipation for the low cost cars by Datsun has increase manifold as India still awaits a low cost car and specially a low cost diesel car that is believed to transform the face of Indian car market.

The Indian line up of Datsun cars will debut with hatchback and later on a sedan will be added followed by compact SUV and MPV. Another important thing is that since Maruti is coming up with the new Maruti 800 which will be priced under Rs 2 lakh, the urgency has started building up on Nissan as once Maruti launches the new 800, the market will see a sweep.
