Datsun to launch 2 cars by 2014, to be priced under Rs 4 lakh
Nissan owned Datsun will be launching cars in India by 2014 and the cars will be priced under Rs 4 lakh. Known for its highly affordable cars, Datsun is expected to be repeating history in India by pitching in cars in the hottest price segment. However, it is to be seen whether the car maker is able to challenge the Rs 1.41 lakh Tata Nano or the Maruti Alto that is priced at Rs 2.40 lakh. As per sources information if the Datsun cars are to be priced under Rs 4 lakh then these will be competing with the likes of Hyundai Eon, Hyundai Santro, Chevrolet Spark and other cars.
As per the information, the Datsun cars will be developed in India and the technology and modeling will be sourced from Japan. By developing the cars in India, the car maker will make sure that the price remains down and the brand sticks to its characteristic image of producing affordable low priced cars. The line up of Datsun cars to be launched in India is still unknown but sources said that it will be the small car segment that the car maker will be targeting. However, the ultra low cost car plans by Nissan Renault and Bajaj remain as it is and even Datsun seems not to launch an ultra low cost car that will rival new Maruti 800 of the Tata Nano.
Notably, Nissan is reviving Datsun for emerging markets such as Russia, India and Indonesia. It is now three decades that Datsun has been discontinued and an early 2014 launch is what the official reports confirm about the re launch of the car brand. It is believed that Datsun cars will be easily accepted in India following its low cost. However, critics suggest that being an entirely new brand, the car maker will take time to settle but some highly affordable car offerings could hasten the process.
