Once again the transport department of the Delhi government has initiated the odd-even vehicle scheme to combat the problem of increasing pollution in the city. But, this time taking a step ahead in this direction the government has decided to exempt the electric  vehicles from this restriction. A statement regarding this was issued by the Minister of Delhi Transport Mr. Kailash Gehlot that the number of registered electric vehicles was than 1,000 in the city and  therefore the chances of pollution from such vehicles is very low. In his words," 

 

 

The second term of odd-even scheme will be effective between November 4,2019 and November 15, 2019. The government has not included the electric vehicles in the list of vehicles exempted from the odd-even scheme.

 

Commenting on the initiation of the scheme, Delhi Chief Minister, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal said that it is one of the seven-point action plans that are introduced by the government to combat air pollution due to burning of crops by the farmers of neighboring states including Punjab and Haryana. It would be important to know that Delhi has been placed at the top position in the list of most polluted cities across the world by the World Health Organization.

Showing its concern towards the increasing problem of pollution the Delhi High Court has also said that “living in Delhi is like living in a gas chamber, and can cause severe damage to health.”
