EESL Plans To Roll Out 9500 EV’s Across The Nation
The state owned agency Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is planning to extend its strategy of encouraging the use of electric vehicles across the nation after delivering the first fleet of 500 vehicles to the government departments located in Delhi next week.

As reported earlier the EESL has invited tenders for supply of 10,000 electric cars to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the government departments. In first phase delivery of 500 vehicles was required by the agency and the remaining 9500 vehicles were decided to be rolled in the next phase. This fleet of 500 vehicles will be used in the government offices located in Delhi-NCR and the remaining vehicles Delhi and other states. According to Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL,"We are actually planning to make it a pan-India rollout. Many states have evinced interest in our EV programme. Once we start the roll out at the NCR level, more states will follow,” Moving ahead Mr. Kumar told that after delivering the first fleet of vehicles by January 15, 2018, after which a detailed program will be initiated for supplying the vehicles to the departments of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat states, along with Delhi.
It would be interested to know that the tender of supplying electric vehicles to the EESL was bagged jointly by the domestic car makers Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors. In the words of Mr. Kumar after delivery of first 500 cars the agency will again talk to the suppliers sometimes during the next m month to determine the prices in the reverse bid.
