Eight new Ford cars launch by 2015
Ford Motors has revealed its plans of launching eight new cars in India, by the year 2015. Most of these new launches will be small cars. However, the first of these eight launches was a mid-size sedan, Fiesta, which was launched in July this year. Ford Fiesta has enjoyed 1,000 bookings in just one and a half months, and it is giving stiff competition to its competitors.
The launch of more small cars clearly suggests Ford's plans of emerging as one of the top automobile companies in India, as the small car market share is 75 percent in India. It's only small car Ford Figo, which is made wholly in India, has generated good sales figures in India, and it is being exported to 26 countries. Ford has plans to take this number to 50 by the end of this year.
During the January to July period of this ear, Ford's sales figures stood at 80,332 units. The forthcoming festive season is expected to take this number even higher for the company.
Ford is currently working on producing more diesel version cars of Figo model, as the demand of Diesel cars has increased substantially. In Demember 2010, 55 percent of Ford Figo cars sold were diesel versions. However, this has increased to 75 percent this year.
Ford has been increasing its production over the years. It is adding 2.4 Lac cars to its annual production schedule at the Gujarat unit. Ford is basically targeting markets of China and India, which are two of world's fastest growing car markets. Ford expects to generate one third of its total profits from these markets by the year 2020.
