FADA Approaches Supreme Court Regarding the Sale of BS-IV Vehicles

Going through the government’s instructions of introducing the new BS-VI emission norms from April 1, 2020, and to stock out the existing inventory of BS-IV vehicles by March 31, 2020, the vehicle manufacturers are approaching to the Honourable Supreme Court to extend the date of rolling out the BS-IV vehicles till May 31, 2020. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), there has been a substantial decline in the sales of all the vehicles, despite huge discount offered by the auto manufacturers on the purchase of BS-IV vehicles.

Commenting on the situation FADA President Mr.  Ashish Harsharaj Kale said, ”Post our initial application, necessitated due to huge unsold BS-IV inventory and slowing sales, getting rejected by the Hon’ble apex court on 14th February’20, there has been a drastic change in circumstances in conducting business as usual. SARS-CoV-2 a.k.a Coronavirus (Covid-19) which emerged in Wuhan in the Hubei province of China has spread rapidly across the globe and also in India.

According to the sales statistics revealed by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the sales of vehicles have substantially declined up to 60% to 70% throughout the country during the last couple of weeks. The customers are staying from the dealership due to the threat of spreading the disease. Moving ahead the sources of SIAM said, that the situation has turned drastic and more horrifying in the past 3-4 days, due to the situation of partial lockdown in a few of the towns and cities. In some of the cities, the district magistrates have instructed the dealers to keep their shops closed for controlling the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The sources of FADA said that they believe that if the situation turns more serious in the coming few days, the automobile manufacturers might have to close their dealerships.
