FASTag To Be Mandatory From The Mid-Night Of February 15, 2021

In a notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the use of FASTag moving across the national highways will be effective from the midnight of February 15, 2021. According to the notification, all the lanes on the National Highways that earlier collected toll in cash on the toll plazas will be converted into FASTag Lane. According to the National Highway Fee Rules 2008, any vehicle without FASTag or with an effective FASTag crossing the highway will be required to pay the double fee for crossing the toll plaza that falls on its way according to the category of the vehicle.

In a report published by PTI, Union Minister, honourable, Nitin Gadkari has said that the deadline for the vehicles to get the FASTag issued on their vehicle will not be further extended, and it will be mandatory for the vehicle owners to make the payment on the toll-plazas through this pattern. In the words of Mr Gadkari, "The government had extended FASTag registration date limit two-three times before; and now, it would not be extended further. Now, everybody should immediately buy FASTag.” It would be interesting to know that the date for using the FASTag had been extended by the government till February 15, 2021.

According to the sources of the government, the use of FASTag will help in minimizing the waiting period on the toll-plazas, encourage the use of the digital payment, offer better fuel efficiency, and flawless transportation across the toll plazas. The Ministry of Road and Transport had made the use of FASTag under M&N categories with effect from January 1, 2021.
