‘Flying car’ coming soon; the US maker eyes India as future for it

Terrafugia, an American firm that is producing a ‘flying car’ or ‘road-able aircraft’ is considering India, Brazil and China as the upcoming markets for its products. By the end of 2012 US car market will witness the commercial launch of this ‘flying car’ by the US based company, said Mr. Carl Dietrich –The Co-founder of Terrafugia.

The two-in-one; car-cum-aircraft is styled in such a way that it folds its wings while it runs on the street. Also, this tucking of arms helps the owner to park this multi operational vehicle in the parking area or inside the home based garage, he informed. He further added that it can get ready to fly in mere 30 second of the command.

The United States located corporation; Terrafugia, had successfully developed a light weight road-able aircraft in the year 2006 named Terrafugia Transition. The ‘flying car’ which is now getting its finishing touches by the company is expected to be on sales by late 2012. It is capable to seat two adults along with their luggage.

As per Mr. Dietrich, a booking order of around 100 such cars; which is priced at 2, 79, 000 US dollars, that comes to approximately INR 1, 39, 50,000, has been received by the company. A fully filled-up tank can fly up to 460 miles with a top speed of 110 miles per hour, he said.

Initially, the product will be rolled out in American auto sector following a European launch, after which Brazil, China and India will be the future markets, he further added.

Carl Dietrich is a graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) situated in Cambridge, he was in India to take part in ‘Goa Think Fest 2011’; a 3-day gathering that will get over by 7th November 2011.

Once launched, the owner can drive the car till the airport and then fly by it, towards his destination.
