Ford India sales up 16.1 per cent in August 2012

Ford Motors India registered a hike of 16.1 per cent in sales in the month of August 2012 at 10,352 units sold last month. In August 2011, Ford Motors India sold only 8,916 units. Ford India’s monthly sales saw a jump by 6.2 per cent at 7,840 units in the month from 7,382 units in August last year.

On the export front, the company did pretty well with a total of 2,512 units exported, however if we compare the same time period with the last year’s, only 1,534 units were exported thereby registering a hike of 63 per cent in August 2012. The President and managing Director of Ford Motors India, Mr. Michael Boneham stated that despite slowdown in the Indian auto market it feels great to see that  the company has managed to post positive sales numbers in the month of August. H further mentioned that the company expects to take these numbers to a new high during the festive season which will begin soon in India. The company is all set to meet the surging demand during this season as people tend to buy new cars during this period as it is considered an auspicious occasion.

The automotive segment have been witnessing a challenging situation due to low sales resulting mainly due to hike in petrol prices, high interest rates and a few other factors also contributing towards the slow down. However, the company is aiming at developing low cost fuel efficient cars for the Indian buyers. Ford EcoSport compact SUV which was displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo in the month of January in New Delhi is also undergoing some final developments before it is launched in the Indian car market. Ford EcoSport SUV which was earlier all set to be launched in India during the festive season will now be launched in the country in the beginning of 2013 most probably the first quarter of the year 2013.
