Ford Patents A Small SUV For Emerging Markets

With rumours of Ford's potential return to the Indian automotive market, recent rumours indicate about its future strategy. However, there has been no confirmation by company sources regarding all these updates. According to a recent rumour the US-based company has patented a compact SUV for markets where it has the potential to grow. This has created a buzz among industry experts, especially in India, raising questions about Ford's plans for India.

The anticipation revolves around Ford's potential re-entry into the Indian market after its departure in 2021, driven by poor sales and substantial losses amounting to $2 billion. Reports suggest that the American car manufacturer might be gearing up to strengthen its foothold in the country, following the cancellation of its plan to sell its Chennai plant in Tamil Nadu to the JSW Group. This is due to the filing of a patent for a small SUV. This move indicates Ford's intent to bolster its market presence, potentially rivalling popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others.

Considering Ford's recent launch in the Chinese car market, the upcoming small SUV is expected to feature a distinctive design, with horizontally stacked LED daytime running lights seamlessly integrated into a bold front grille. The muscular look extends to the SUV's exterior, characterized by black wheel arch cladding and pronounced rear haunches.

Inside, Ford aims to boost the in-car experience with premium materials and advanced features such as a prominent infotainment touchscreen display, digital instrument cluster, and compatibility with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Initially speculated to be part of a joint venture with Mahindra, the SUV's configuration might undergo partial revision, favouring an all-Ford powertrain and platform. Rumours also hint at the possibility of a diesel powertrain option.

As the automotive industry eagerly awaits Ford's next move, the potential comeback holds significance for India's manufacturing sector, following the exits of other major players like Chevrolet and Datsun. Will Ford's small SUV mark its return to Indian roads? Only time will tell.
