French Groupe PSA To Introduce Citroen Brand In India

French carmaker Groupe PSA in collaboration with the CK Birla group is planning to step in the Indian car market and launch the first vehicle under its flagship with Citroen badge by the end of 2021. The cars manufactured by the Indo-French group would be manufactured in the state of Tamil Nadu. It would be interesting to know that after phasing out the iconic Ambassador from the Indian car market, the CK Birla group is making its re-entry in the Indian car market.

The information regarding this joint venture was revealed by Carlos Tavares, Chairman, Managing Board, Groupe PSA, during the presentation of financial results of the company for the Financial Year 2018. According to him, the company speculates to step in the Indian car market with the Citroen brand of car, which has been in the International car market since 1919. The joint venture with the Indian group is the part of “Push to Plan” strategy introduced by the group back in 2017 and commenced with its partnership with CK Birla group. According to the sources the main objective of the group is to encourage the feeling of “Be Indian in India” and to develop the engines that are eco-friendly.

In the words of Emmanual Delay, Executive VP, Head Of India-Pacific region, “This project means to be fully integrated in India with a comprehensive eco-system including local production of vehicles and power trains, distribution of vehicles and services as well as procurements for the whole group,”

Commenting on the joint venture with the French group, Mr. C.K.Birla, Chairman, CK Birla Group of Companies, said, “Announcement of Citroën brand for our vehicle JV in India, soon after the inauguration of the powertrain JV greenfield facility at Hosur in late 2018, is a major milestone for the long term partnership of PSA Groupe and CK Birla Group,”
