General Motors small cars to boost up its sales!

In order to grab a large market share in the Indian auto industry, General Motors India is now focusing at the small car market to mount up its sales statistics. Although, its been 16 years since GM stepped in the domestic auto-market, but it has not been able to achieve the deserving place in the industry. Now, the company is bit more stressed on enhancing its dealership and service network in order to get a good response from the enthusiasts.

Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India commented that Indian auto industry is in major, a small car market and GM would now try focusing on the needs of the customer thereby, primarily get involved in the small car market. He further added that apart from the small cars, the company would also target to enhance its footprints in the MPV segment within this year. In 2012, General Motors is also looking forward to launch two new products, i.e. the premium hatchback, Chevrolet Sail and another seven seater MPV.

Paddock further stated that so far the company holds a single digit share in the Indian auto-market, but they are quite ambitious to make it a double digit figure. However, he did not refer to the exact time limit to attain the target. In year 2011, sales of General Motors were 1,11,510 units compared to 1,10,804 units sales of 2010. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian passenger cars sales were 19,46,373 units in 2011.

Furthermore, Paddock affirmed that Chevrolet Sail is going to be the first vehicle from GM’s Chinese partner SAIC that would make it’s footprints on the domestic shores.  He further stated that the company would launch the Sail in both diesel and petrol in-lines and it has been designed to meet with the Indian conditions. The hatchback Sail would soon be followed by its Sedan version. The official also commented that by the end of 2012, the company is targeting to establish 300 outlets across the nation and would also focus to open the similar number of service centers.
