GM India sales tumble down by 20 per cent
Seems like last month didn’t go well for General Motors India! The April sales of GM India this year were not as impressive as we were expecting. The sales in the month of April 2012 of GM India tumbled down by 20.34% at 8005 units. The firm managed to sell about 10050 units in April 2011, which was quite good.
As per the Vice President of General Motors India, Mr. P. Balendran, the sales of last month did not come out as it was expected. The loss in these sales figures is all because of rise in excise duty, increased in local taxes in few states and sky rocketing fuel prices. All these factors continue to put the company under immense pressure. Many of the consumers made their sales way back in February and March fearing the hike in Union Budget.
However, with RBI opting for CRR cut to perk up market liquidity and cutting down repo rates by about 50 basis points, GM India is expecting the sales to improve in the next couple of months.
Going through the statistics of General Motors India, the firm sold about 821 units of Chevrolet Spark, 140 units of entry level Aveo, 455 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 4586 units of Chevrolet Beat, and 28 units of Chevrolet Optra. On the other hand, 1953 units of Chevrolet Tavera and 22 units of Chevrolet Captiva SUV were sold in last month. Hopefully, there sales figure will go up in the coming months.
