Government to impose subsidy on electric vehicles from April 2014
It is reported that government of India is going to take some concrete decision on use of electronic vehicles in India. According to reports, as a part of National Electric Mobility Mission Plan developed by Ministry of Heavy Industries a decision regarding subsidy on electric vehicles will be taken during April 2014. The main reason behind this to encourage people for making a pollution free environment and the second reason could be problem of parking that exists almost in every city. As these vehicles carry compact design it is easier to park them at determined parking place.
Addressing the SIAM’s conference Mr. Ambuj Sharma, Additional Secretary Ministry of Heavy Industries said the main reason behind the delay of this policy was due to lack of funds available with government. Moving ahead Mr. Sharma said that government speculated an investment of Rs. 12,000 crore during the next seven years at an average of Rs. 2,000 crore and is trying to find an appropriate solution of this problem with Ministry of Finance. With this he also added that during the first two years of policy the investment would low and once the economy improves it would be increased accordingly.
At present the highly appreciated electric vehicle existing in Indian market e20 from Mahindra and Prius from Toyota which apart from being eco friendly vehicles are also fuel efficient. Moreover in current scenario with regular fluctuations in prices of fuel these vehicles could prove to be the best option of transport in coming future. As an impact of subsidies low priced electric vehicles will be sold in Indian market.
