Government To Offer Subsidy On the Purchase Of Electric Vehicles
With its objective of attaining complete electric mobility in the country by 2030, the Government of India has reserved Rs. 9,400 crore for encouraging the use of such vehicles within the country. According to recent reports the government will offer the subsidy of Rs. 2.5 lakh to taxi and travel agency operators for buying electric taxis and buses, which are priced up-to Rs. 15 lakh. Along with this the government will also offer the subsidy of Rs. 30,000 to buyers of electric two wheelers which are priced up-to Rs. 1.5 lakh.

The subsidy will however be offered to the buyers who will scrap their old vehicle empowered with petrol and diesel engine and buy the new electronic vehicle. With this step government believes to witness dynamic hike in the sales of electric vehicles. The subsidy will not only be offered to the buyers of commercial vehicles but also to the owners of personal vehicles who will get their exisiting pre-BS III vehicle scrapped for buying an electric or hybrid vehicle.
It is believed that the claim of subsidy for electric two wheelers will cost around Rs. 1,500 crore in the coming few years. With this the government is also working on developing an appropriate infrastructure for constructing charging facilities for electric vehicles throughout the country. According to an estimate the cost of developing charging stations will cost around Rs. 1,000 crore.
