Government To Scrap 15 Years Old Diesel Vehicles
According to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, the ministry has sent a draft to state govenrments for scrapping 15 years old diesel vehicles used in the state and central government offices from April 1, 2023. Before this announcement, the Minister of road and transport had appealed to people sitting in the back seat of cars to wear seatbelts while travelling.

The sources said that the central government has sent a draft to the state governments for implementing this policy in their respective states from the next year. The vehicles coming under this scrappage policy will include all government buses, cars, and trucks. With the implementation of this policy, all types of government vehicles running on roads will be pulled out. The central government announced the vehicle scrappage policy earlier this year to combat the problem of pollution.
The Minister also informed that the components of these vehicles, like tyres will be used for constructing new roads in the country. The honourable Prime Minister of India initiated the automotive scrappage policy, also known as Voluntary Vehicle Fleet Modernisation Programme in August 2021. This policy offers incentives to vehicle owners like registration fee waiver on the purchase of a new car to vehicle owners bringing their vehicle for scrapping voluntarily.
