Government to Soon Reveal New GPS-Enabled Toll Policy
In an attempt to make traffic smoother on the highways, the government of India is soon going to unveil a new GPS-enabled toll collection policy. This was announced by the Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Honourable Nitin Gadkari. The implementation of the new policy will replace the existing toll plazas from the highway.

Addressing the CII’s Annual Conference, Hon. Minister said, “that while GPS-based tracking toll technology is not present in the country at the moment, his ministry is currently working on developing the technology in India.” He also asked the road construction organizations to focus on controlling the use of cement and steel during road construction to minimise the cost of their construction.
In the words of Hon. Minister the steel and cement manufacturers are involved in cartelisation. He also urged the experts to look for new methods of developing roads, and limit the use of cement and steel in road construction.
Earlier this year, while addressing Lok Sabha, the Minister of Road and Transport had said that government will remove the existing toll plazas, and introduce GPS-based toll collection system in the entire country. According to him,” I want to assure the House that within one year all physical toll booths in the country will be removed. It means that toll collection will happen via GPS. The money will be collected based on GPS imaging (on vehicles).”
