Green Colored Sticker Necessary For The BS-VI Compliant Vehicles
In its recent notification, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MorTH) has stated that from October 1, 2020, onwards it will be mandatory for all the vehicles including cars, motorcycles, scooters or any vehicles empowered with BS6 compliant engine to have a green-colored sticker fitted on the top of the “third registration plate”. The notification will be however not apply to the existing BS6 compliant vehicles running already on the roads or on the vehicles that will be soon delivered to the new buyers.

According to the sources the green sticker will be mounted inside the windshield of the upcoming cars. Doing this will help in identifying the BS6 vehicles from older vehicles. It is also reported that the same pattern has been followed by most of the countries. It is also reported that the vehicle empowered with BS6 compliant petrol or CNG engines will have the sticker with light blue color background, while the vehicles with a BS6 diesel engine will receive the sticker with an orange-colored background. In the words of an officer from MorTH, "It has been brought-forth that the BS-VI emission standards, which have been mandated from April 1, 2020, provide for strict emission norms, and requests were to made to have distinct identification for such vehicles as is being made in other countries."
It would be interesting to know that to control the incidences of vehicle burglary the government has already been the use of high-security number plates with a chromium hologram pasted with hot stamping mounted at the top of the number plate on the left side. The plate has a 10 digit identification number with a reflective sheet placed at the bottom of the number plate. The hot-stamping process will be applied for fixing the green stickers on the upcoming vehicles with a BS6 compliant engine launched after October 2020.
