Honda resumes operations at flood affected Thai plant
The Thailand based facilities of the Japanese auto giant Honda Motors, which had been affected very badly following a massive flood in the country, has once again started operating at its normal capacity. The company announced on Monday that HATCL (Honda Automobile Thailand Co. Ltd), which is headquartered in Rojana Industrial Park (Ayutthaya), is all set to resume production from today onwards.

It has been more than five months since the production at the Thailand based plant of the firm is on a halt, after a massive flood completely crippled – down the manufacturing operations at this plant in October 2011. This had badly affected the production of cars like compact hatchback Honda Brio, premium hatchback Honda Jazz and flagship sedan Honda City at the Indian unit of Honda, as the Thailand based plant has been catering the needs of components essential for the car manufacturing to HSCIL (Honda Siel Cars India Limited).

The year 2012 has been one of the worst ever years in the history of Honda’s operations as majority of its production remained halted throughout last year following a devastating earth quake and Tsunami in March 2011, followed by the massive floods of Thailand. The halted production affected the company’s sales very badly, after the delivery period of its portfolio cars shot upwards.

Now, as the company has resumed the production at the Thailand based manufacturing plant the mounting pressure of long waiting period is expected to come down, with supply of the cars and components are expected to meet the demand in the coming months.
