Honda Wants Government’s Plan Before Launching Its EV’s In India
Although government of India is keen to encourage the use of electronic vehicle in India by 2030 but due to lack of transparency in its policies lots of car manufacturers are in dilemma about the launch of their electric vehicles on Indian roads. The new name to enter in this segment is Japanese car maker Honda Motors Co which has already started working on this project but is keen to know about government’s policies before launching its electric vehicles successfully in Indian car market.
According to the sources of the company it has already constituted the team of experts to conduct a detailed research about the launch of electric vehicle in India. The sources of company also told that the car maker has already informed that two-thirds of its sales by 2030 in International market will be from electronic vehicles. Commenting about the launch of electric vehicles in India, Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO Honda Car India Limited said, "We are aware of India government's push for all electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. Globally also there is a push for EVs. So we (Honda) have started working on development of such vehicles,". Replying to the query about the launch of electronic vehicles in Indian car market he said the launch will depend on various matters. In the words of Ueno, "We need a proper road map from the government, standardisation of specifications and charging infrastructure are required,"
Talking about the support from the government he said that keeping existing conditions in concern the price of electrifying the existing vehicles would be quite double to their standard price. And, therefore the Japanese car maker will reveals its strategy about electric vehicles only after receiving the full information about government’s intentions towards these vehicles.
