Hyundai India workers threaten to go on strike
The workers at the country’s second largest car maker Hyundai’s Chennai plant have threatened to go on a strike if the company not reinstates their 18 sacked colleagues. The statement came from the side of Hyundai Motors India Employees Union (HMIEU), which is not recognized by the Hyundai’s management.
It is to be mentioned here that the Hyundai Motors India has signed a tripartite agreement with agitating workers in the month of December 2010, in the presence of the government of Tamil Nadu state. As per the agreement, the company had agreed to reinstate 14 workers out of total 32 sacked workers in June 2010. These workers were suspended after a three day long strike at the company’s Chennai plant in June. The remaining 18 workers were asked to take the legal recourse as the company found them guilty of major offences during the strike.
In a recent statement, HMIEU Honorary President A Soundararajan said that the are planning to protest in front of the plant if the company not reinstates the remaining 18 sacked workers.
On the Other hand, an HMIL spokesman said that any agitation following the agreement signed in December last year, would be a violation of the terms of this agreement according to which the matter stands closed.
